On a perfect night at Penn State University, Mahoning Valley played its best game yet against the State College Spikes. An exciting game which came down to the final at bat, Mahoning Valley's 9th inning rally fell just short when Jairo Kelly grounded out against Spikes' releiver Pat Ludwig to end the game.

The Scrappers (2-5) ended their series with the State College Spikes with nothing to show for it getting swept in four outings. Although the Scrappers struggled against the Spikes their offense improved mightily in Sunday's game which could be a good sign for the future. Juan Romero had another solid outing for the Scrappers going and two for four with two RBI's and two runs scored. Romero, jump started a two run ninth inning comeback which fell just one run short.

The Scrappers feel like they let one slip through their fingers Sunday night as the game was tied 3-3 until the bottom of the eighth. A hot fourth inning for the Scrappers gave them a short lived 3-2 lead until the Spikes scored in the bottom of the same inning to tie it up. Another notable Scrapper performance was Joe Sever who went 3-4 in his first action of the season for the Scrappers. His three hits were good enough to lead all hitters in the game Sunday night.

Pitcher Jake Sisco was on the mound Sunday night as he went four innings, giving up only two hits however, those two hits produced three runs, two which were earned. Luis Head came in to releive Sisco in the top of the 5th. Head (0-1) was credited with the loss despite only giving up one run and three hits. Enosil Tejeda had a tough time against the Spikes hitters on Sunday night. His number was called in the bottom of the eighth with the game tied 3-3. Tejeda, in releif, gave up three hits and two runs which seemingly put the game out of reach for the Scrappers.

The Scrappers look to build on an improved offensive performance Sunday night, which consisted of 10 hits and 5 runs total. Mahoning Valley returns home for two consecutive three-game home series against the Williamsport Crosscutters and State-College.
