EASTLAKE, OHIO - The Lake County Captains (7-5, 30-49) came back from a 3-0 deficit early to defeat the Fort Wayne Tincaps (3-8, 46-34) 6-3 on Monday night at Classic Park. The Captains won the final two games to win their eighth series of 2013.

Right-hander Blake Wood made his third start for the Captains as a part of his MLB Rehab Assignment. Wood threw thirteen pitches in his one inning of work, while giving up one hit and one strikeout.

Luis Dejesus took over for the second inning and the Tincaps greeted him rudely. The Tincaps used five singles in the frame to score three runs. Left fielder Luis Domoromo, centerfielder Brian Adams, and shortstop Tyler Stubblefield all had RBI singles during the inning.

The Captains rallied for two runs against Tincaps’ starter Joe Ross in the third inning. The Captains loaded the bases with one out with three straight singles and third baseman Erik Gonzalez plated two runs with a RBI single up the middle.

The Captains used a four-run fourth to take the lead. Left fielder Todd Hankins tied the game with a RBI double in the fourth inning. Shortstop Dorssys Paulino gave Lake County the lead with a two-run double to left field. First baseman Joe Sever added another run with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Ross came out of the game after five innings. He lost his third game of the year, giving up six runs on a season and career-high thirteen hits. He did not walk a batter and he fanned one batter. Joe Church took the mound for the sixth inning.

Dejesus won his third game of the year, with five innings of work in relief. He allowed three runs on eight hits. He walked one batter while not striking out anyone.

Luis Morel followed with three innings of hitless relief work. He earned his second save of the year.

The Tincaps bullpen continued to shine with four innings of shutout ball. Church, Jorge Guzman and Trevor Gott combined to shut down the Captains on three hits. In the three game series, the Tincaps bullpen allowed only five hits and two walks in 11 innings of work.

Manager Scooter Tucker had this to say about Monday night’s game, “It started off bad, in the second inning they got ahead of us. The guys swung the bats well for us tonight against a very good pitcher (Ross).”

Tucker went on to add that the change in the pre-game routine could have helped the offense rest. “I wish I could tell you what we did different besides we didn’t hit on the field today. We took a little bit of a break for our offensive routine.”

The Captains outhit the Tincaps 16-9 in the game, including 13 singles. Every Captains player in the lineup had at least one hit. Paulino led the team with three hits, including two doubles.

The Captains will welcome the Lansing Lugnuts to Classic Park on Tuesday night for a two game series. RHP Robbie Aviles (1-3, 5.01) will start for the Captains as he will take on RHP Ben White (4-4, 3.84) for the Lugnuts. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
