Erie, PA -- Jared Goedert went 4-4 with two home runs, leading the Akron Aeros over the Erie SeaWolves 8-1.

Goedert had his best game of the season, hitting three extra-base hits as the Aeros broke a season-long four game losing streak and ended Erie’s six game winning streak.

Zack Segovia (4-3, 5.27) struggled out of the gate, allowing home runs to the first three Akron hitters.  He allowed a total of six runs on seven hits and two walks in just three innings to take Erie out of the game.

Akron starting pitcher T.J. McFarland (7-1, 1.86) had all the support he needed after the first inning as he ran his streak of scoreless innings to 14 and picking up his Eastern League leading seventh win.

He pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out six.  McFarland continued to display strong command with all of his pitches after being named the Cleveland Indians Minor League Player of the Week earlier in the day.

Center fielder Tim Fedroff led off the top of the first with his first home run of the year to right field.  Shortstop Juan Diaz followed with another drive to the same spot, his third of the season. Goedert, who entered the game with the Eastern League’s second best batting average, completed the back-t0-back-to-back shots, his fourth of the year.

Segovia retired the next three batters to end the first, but ran into trouble again in the third.  Goedert led off with a double to left and moved to third on designated hitter Chun Chen’s single.  Goedert scored on right fielder Thomas Neal’s sacrifice fly to right.  After a walk, third baseman Kyle Bellows hit a double down the left-field line, scoring two more runs for a 6-0 Akron lead.

Goedert continued to punish Erie pitching after the exit of Segovia, hitting a ball to left center in the fourth inning.  Goedert over-slid second base and was tagged out, receiving credit for a single.

In the sixth inning, Goedert hit his second home run of the game against SeaWolves reliever Mark Sorenson.  The home run landed on top of the Erie Civic Arena, which sits adjacent to Jerry Uht Park and serves as the left field wall.

With an 8-0 lead, Akron Aeros manager Chris Tremie removed Goedert from the game in the seventh inning, subbing in Jordan Casas.  After his two-home run night, Goedert has now hit three long balls in his past three games.  He raised his average 21 points to .383 after his perfect hitting game.

Mason Radeke pitched the final two innings for the Aeros, allowing one hit, a home run to Erie right fielder Ben Guez, making the score 8-1.  Radeke walked one and struck out one.

The Aeros and SeaWolves will play the series rubber match on Wednesday morning at 11:05 a.m.  Right-hander Brett Brach (0-1, 12.27) will make his second start for the Aeros against Erie southpaw Jared Wesson (3-2, 6.68).  The Aeros will return to Canal Park for the team’s next home stand on Friday, May 18 against Richmond.

Notes: Jared Goedert now leads the Eastern League in hitting. ... T.J. McFarland is second in the Eastern league in innings pitched (48.1). ... Announced attendance: 1,625.
