Valbuena's blast equals sweep for Clippers

Luis Valbuena's walk-off homer gave the Clippers a 5-4 victory over the Norfolk Tides and completed a four-game sweep.

With Tim Fedroff on and two out, Luis Valbuena took a Mark Worrell pitch over the right field wall, giving the Clippers their third straight walk-off victory.

Two early Clippers runs scored via Jerad Head blast to the left field bleachers. He has homered in four straight games.

After Head's homer, the Clippers still trailed by a run. In the seventh, after loading the bases with two outs, they tied the game on a Head single, which was sharply lined off the glove of Tides third baseman Brendan Harris. Cord Phelps attempted to score but was cut down at the plate by shortstop Carlos Rojas.

Josh Judy came on in the ninth to preserve a tie, but gave up a two-out single to Kyle Hudson and John Hester came around to score the go-ahead run.

Judy (5-2) gets credit for the win, however. The loss goes to Mark Worrell, who drops to 0-5 on the year.

Zach McAllister surrendered three runs and struck out five in his six-inning start.

Zach Putnam threw two scoreless innings in relief of McAllister and struck out three.

After an off day, the Clippers welcome the Syracuse Chiefs to Huntington Park, Thursday for a four-game set. Right-hander Joe Martinez (6-5, 4.17) will pitch for Columbus.

Burns ties Aeros single-season saves record

Right-handed pitcher Cory Burns tied the Akron Aeros single-season saves record recording his 29th save of 2011 in the teams 3-2 win over the Trenton Thunder Tuesday at Waterfront Park.

Burns joined Randy Newsom, who had 29 saves for the Aeros in 2008.

Right-handed pitcher Austin Adams was part of the bridge to Burns
