BUFFALO- An all-out offensive assault by the Clipper bats and right-hander Trevor Bauer’s first complete game of the season powered Columbus over the Buffalo Bisons 10-3 in the first contest of a four-game series Monday.

Spanned out over 116 pitches, Bauer’s nine-inning outing was not perfect, but certainly one of, if not his finest performance to date. In that time, the prospect allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and fanned four batters. He also walked four but worked out of several binds to keep his momentum going.

Bauer (5-2, 3.84 ERA) kept chipping away all night and his offense definitely provided a nice comfortable cushion for support.

The runs came early and often for Columbus. Every player in the Clipper lineup collected a hit with the exception of first baseman Chun-Hsiu Chen (he did have an RBI however). Four players compiled multi hit games. Shortstop Juan Diaz, catcher Roberto Perez, third baseman Nate Spears and second baseman Ryan Rohlinger and Perez led the charge with four RBI.

Both teams notched a run a each in the first inning. After a leadoff walk, Columbus center fielder Tim Fedroff quickly made it around to third after a groundout and a passed ball by Buffalo catcher Mike Nickeas. Left fielder Jeremy Hermida put the Clippers on the board with a single to right for his team-leading 50th RBI of the season.

The Bisons struck when right fielder Moises Sierra lofted a one-out sacrifice fly to center to score left fielder Kevin Pillar.

Columbus erupted for four more runs off of lefty Ricky Romero in the top of the second to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Spears started the rally by reaching on a soft bunt single down the third base line to load the bases. In the following at-bat, Perez roped a bases-clearing double in the left field gap to give the Clippers a three-run advantage. Shortly after, the bases were juiced again when Chen walked home another run.

Buffalo narrowed the deficit by netting two runs in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs in the inning, Bauer allowed a base hit to left to designated hitter Jim Negrych. On the first pitch he saw, third baseman Andy LaRoche belted a two-run home run over the left field fence to cut the score to 5-3.

Bauer settled down after that inning and hit the cruise control button for the remainder of the contest, surrendering just two hits the rest of the way.

The Clippers hung another other four-spot on the Bisons in the top of the seventh and tacked on yet another run in the top of the ninth to increase their lead even further. Right fielder Ezequiel Carrera crushed a homer to right in the opening portion of the seventh.

With Hermida on second, Diaz scorched an RBI two-bagger to left field and designated hitter Matt Carson brought him home with a single to center. The bases became full once again and Perez smacked a base knock up the middle for his fourth RBI of the affair.

Diaz blasted a solo shot to center field in the top of the ninth to up the score to 10-3.

Romero (2-4, 6.00 ERA) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs in just one frame of work.

The victory improves Columbus’ record to 50-54 on the year.

Right-hander Danny Salazar (3-2, 3.57 ERA), making his first start for the Clippers since his spectacular major-league debut with the Cleveland Indians. He'll look to continue his success Tuesday as he squares off against Buffalo left-hander J.A. Happ (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Action is slated to begin at 7:05 p.m.
