Cleveland Sports Insiders 2.20: The Browns kick-off and more
Start off a new week with IBI's Sunday Night staple, Cleveland Sports Insiders...at 9:00 on BlogTalkRadio!!!
CSI's Jim Pete and Michael Hattery will dive right into the Cleveland Indians, who will remain the most important topic here at IBI as long as they are still in the legitimate hunt for a spot in the playoffs.
They are, in case you hadn't noticed.
The Cleveland Indians are only 5 1/2 games in back of the Detroit Tigers for first place in the Central, as well as one game behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the wild card slot. This team is far from done, but have a major set of games coming up with the division rival Kansas City Royals. The Royals have matched the Indians win-for-win down the stretch, and find themselves only a game behind the Indians.
On Monday, the Indians start their first game of six with the Royals over the next ten games. On the hill tomorrow? Ubaldo Jimenez vs. Ervin Santana. I'd be lying if I said I felt good about the match-up. His worth with this team comes down to that start.
Can he win the big game?
Zach McAllister faces off against Jeremy Guthrie on Tuesday, and Scott Kazmir goes up against Royals ace James Shields on Wednesday. This is why the Royals paid big money and prospects to get all three starters facing off against the Indians. Will it pay off and demoralize the Indians chances, or will the Indians continue their march to the promised land?
The Cleveland Browns also take the field today for the first time this season, going up against the Miami Dolphins. I hate saying that a game 1 is a must-win for the Browns, but it is. If the Browns lose today, they face two road games, at Baltimore and at Minnesota, before coming home to face the Bengals. If they go 2-2, they'll have a shot at the playoffs. If they go better, who knows. If they go 0-4, it's game over before the second quarter of the season.
