Around The Farm: November 23, 2013
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.
DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)
Erik Gonzalez (Leones del Escogido, SS): 0-for-3, 2 K. Gonzalez had a rare quiet night at the plate with zeros all across the board except for two strikeouts. This hitless performance snaps a mini-hit-streak of three games for Gonzalez, but his overall .352 batting average still remains more than solid in winter ball this offseason.
PUERTO RICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LBPRC)
Carlos Moncrief (Gigantes de Carolina, RF): 1-for-3, RBI. Moncrief recorded a hit in his third straight game and his third RBI in his last two games. Things seem to be starting to come together for the outfielder as he's now hit .310 over his last ten games with a homer and seven RBI.
Roberto Perez (Indios de Mayaguez, C): 0-for-0. Well, it looks like Perez will just have to wait for another night to get his first winter ball hit of 2013. The Tribe catching prospect came into the game as a defensive replacement in the sixth, but was pinch-hit for in the 9th in his first and only at-bat.
AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE (ABL)
Ryan Battaglia (Brisbane Bandits, DH): 1-for-3, 2B, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K. It was a very good day at the plate for Battaglia as he reached base three times and scored a pair of runs. His double on Saturday extended his hit streak to three and gave him a hit in eight of his last ten games. The only problem for him lately has been stringing together multiple hits since he's only had one hit in each of those eight games.
