Manchester, NH – The Akron Aeros (67-45) used a five run first inning to take a commanding lead and held on all the way to victory against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (43-70) , winning 7-3 at Delta Dental Stadium Friday night.

The Aeros were in the zone early, scoring five runs in the top of the first against Fisher Cats starter Deck McGuire (5-12). Akron put its first three batters on then to take a 1-0 lead. Then, after a walk and an infield pop-up, McGuire surrendered a grand slam to Juan Diaz to push the lead to 5-0 after just six batters.

New Hampshire catcher Koby Clemens started the Fisher Cats rally in the bottom of the fifth. With runners at first and second with two outs, Clemens hit a two-out double to cut the lead to 5-2.

The Fisher Cats rallied again in the seventh, cutting the lead to 5-3 after second baseman Brian Bocock hit a sacrifice fly to score Brad Glenn.

The Aeros responded in the eighth, as Thomas Neal scored on a wild pitch that pushed the lead back to four and provide the final runs of the game at 7-3.

Toru Murata started and pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Aeros, giving up four hits, two runs, and striking out four. Kyle Landis (6-4) got the win for Akron, going 1 1/3 innings while giving up one hit and striking out one as well.

Neal had a great game at the plate for the Aeros, going 3-5 with two runs scored. Both teams combined for 20 hits on the night.

The Aeros and Fisher Cats continue their series tomorrow night, where RHP Chad Jenkins (5-9, 4.96) takes the ball for the Fisher Cats against Akron RHP Danny Salazar, who will be making his first start at the Double A level.
