Altoona, PA -- The final day of the baseball season is bittersweet for players and fans alike, but a win makes the parting a little easier to take.

The Akron Aeros wrapped up the 2013 season in winning fashion Monday afternoon, capturing a 4-2, comeback victory in 11 innings over the Altoona Curve at People's Natural Gas Field.

The Aeros (68-73) took three of four in the final series of the season. They finished 13-9 in the season series against the Curve.

On Monday, Matt Lawson 2-5, with three RBI to lead the Aeros to the win. Lawson's bloop single in the seventh inning scored two runs and tied the game, 2-2. Then in the top of the 11th, Lawson smacked an opposite field single to right, driving home Carlos Moncrief, who had doubled. That hit gave the Aeros a 3-2 lead. Lawson who split his season between Akron and Columbus, finished with 26 RBI for the Aeros.

Chris Wallace added a sacrifice fly in the 11th to give the Aeros an insurance run, and make it 4-2. The Aeros rally came against Curve lefty Eliecer Navarro (4-8).

The Aeros turned the lead over to dependable closer Jose Flores, who pitched in his league-leading 59th game. Flores retired the Curve 1-2-3 in the 11th for his 16th save in 19 chances. The winning pitcher was Austin Adams (3-2), who worked a scoreless 10th.

The Aeros collected 10 hits on the day and stranded 15 runners on base against six Curve hurlers.

Brett Brach started for the Aeros and worked the first six innings, allowing just two runs, but was denied in his bid for his 10th win of the season. Brach finished the year at 9-9.

Jake Lowery and Alex Monsalve had two hits apiece for the Aeros.

The Aeros will now disperse for the off-season, and begin preparing for the 2014 season, which begins on Thursday, April 3rd. The home opener is slated for Thursday, April 10th. For all team news and off-season announcements, monitor the club's official website, www.akronaeros.com.
